Business Awards for Women Entrepreneurs Worth Applying For (2026–2027)
Awards for women entrepreneurs open now in Canada, the US and the UK, with deadlines, fees and prizes checked in November 2026, and which ones charge to enter.

Updated November 2026. Every deadline, fee and prize below was checked on the organizer's own page on 5 November 2026.
The Zonta club in Kanata-Stittsville will give CA$1,000 to one woman aged 18 to 35, and all you send is a PDF. Inc. Female Founders charges US$395 just to be considered after 6 November, and "all sales are final." Both are called awards. Most lists of awards for women entrepreneurs put them side by side without telling you which kind you're looking at.
This list does. Below are awards open in Canada, the US and the UK as of November 2026, each with what it costs to enter, what you win, when it closes, and the condition most likely to rule you out. The ones that charge are marked. After the list: whether an award is worth your evenings, and how to write a nomination a judge can actually score.
Are business awards worth it?
Sometimes, and rarely for the reason founders hope. What an award gives you is a credible line for your bio and proposals, a reason to get in touch with press or a client you've been meaning to call, and a room full of local business owners on gala night. Customers seldom arrive on the strength of the award alone. If what you need this quarter is sales, those hours are better spent on the places your first customers actually come from.
There's even a cautionary study. Economists Ulrike Malmendier and Geoffrey Tate tracked US public companies and found that CEOs who won prestigious business-press awards went on to underperform a matched group who didn't win, while spending more time on board seats and writing books. The study is about large public companies, not a business like yours, but the lesson travels: an award records work you've already done, and next year's work is still yours to do.
Where awards pay off for a small business is close to home. A chamber or YWCA award puts you in front of judges and guests who are local business owners, some of whom will become clients, referrers or the person who recommends you for a panel. Your odds are likely better too, because the field is the businesses in your city rather than the whole country.
Do I have to be nominated, or can I nominate myself?
Most business awards let you nominate yourself, and plenty say they'd rather you did. The SBA's page says plainly that "individuals may self-nominate", the Greater Victoria Chamber says it encourages businesses to nominate themselves, and Regina's Paragon Awards take nominations from anyone, "including their own."
Recognition awards like YWCA Metro Vancouver's Women of Distinction are built around someone else putting you forward, with your consent. If you'd like to be nominated for one of those, ask a client or peer directly and hand them the facts: what you've done this year, with numbers, and why it matters to the people the award is about.
Do business awards charge entry fees?
Most of the chamber, YWCA and women-in-business awards below state no fee anywhere on their pages. Fees show up on the national lists: Inc. charges US$295 to US$395, and Canada's Rockstar Rising Awards ask for a $199 "application processing fee", $224.87 with HST.
Paying to enter isn't automatically a scam. Some programs charge everyone the same fee to cover judging, and plenty of people don't win. The pattern to walk away from is paying to win: a fee that appears after you're told you've won, a score threshold above which every entry wins, or a trophy you have to buy. The Stevie Awards for Women in Business show how that can look. Entry fees for the Best Female Solo Entrepreneur category in the 2026 round ran US$215 to US$305, every entry averaging 8 out of 10 or higher becomes a finalist, "all Finalists will ultimately be Gold, Silver or Bronze Stevie Award winners," and Silver and Bronze winners can buy their trophy. The Better Business Bureau's rule of thumb is that most legitimate awards don't charge the recipient.
Watch for costs that aren't called fees, too. The Greater Victoria Chamber awards are free to enter, but nominees have to join the Chamber by 1 February 2027 to go on to judging. Enterprising Women has no fee to enter, but nominees "should plan to attend the conference" in Florida to receive the award.
When are business awards usually open?
Most of the 2027 rounds on this list close between mid-November 2026 and February 2027: London and Burlington on 20 November, Surrey and White Rock on 15 January, Mississauga on 31 January. A few keep a different calendar; the Stevie Awards for Women in Business open their 2027 round in May. When you find an award that's already closed, like the RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards (2026 gala on 13 November, no 2027 date posted yet), put a reminder in your calendar for the month you found it and check back.

How do I write an award nomination that gets read?
Answer the judging criteria in the order they're listed, with a number or a named example for each one. Judges score each entry against those criteria, and the entry that makes scoring easy gives them less to guess at.
Find the weights. Some awards publish them. Mississauga's Woman of the Year is scored 30% on leadership and vision, 30% on business achievement, 20% on workplace culture and 20% on community, so spend your words in roughly that proportion. Where no weights are given, the order of the criteria is your outline.
Trade adjectives for evidence. "Grew from two retainer clients to eleven in 2026" does more work than "exceptional growth." You don't need big numbers: the Total Mom FAQ says a loyal community of 200 customers who come back every week is compelling.
Don't assume the judge knows your field. Open with one plain sentence on what you do and who you do it for.
Draft offline and respect the word count. YWCA Metro Vancouver recommends writing in a word processor and pasting in when you're ready. An online form can time out, and a deadline-night crash is a long way to lose 600 words.
One strong nomination beats five copies. The Inspiring Women Awards say multiple nominations for one person "carry no more weight than a single nomination."
Ask for reference letters early. Surrey and White Rock requires one. Give your referee three specific facts to write about so the letter adds something your own answers don't.
Once you've written one good 300-word account of your year, keep it. It becomes the next nomination, a grant application, and the bio you'll need when you start pitching yourself as a speaker.
FAQ
Can I apply if my business is a side hustle? For some awards, yes. Total Mom says a part-time business counts if it's active and you can speak to real traction. Others set a trading minimum: three years in London, five for Mississauga's Small Business of the Year.
Do I have to attend the ceremony? Often, yes. YWCA Metro Vancouver and Enterprising Women both require it. Stevie winners who don't attend can pay a shipping fee to get the award sent. Check before you apply, because travel can cost more than any entry fee.
I got an email saying I've won an award I never entered. Is it real? Be suspicious. The BBB says if you didn't apply and they can't tell you how you were nominated, it probably isn't legitimate, especially if claiming it costs money.
Can Canadian founders enter US or UK awards? Some. Inspiring Women's Women Making Waves category is global, and Enterprising Women's eligibility rules set ownership and three years in business without naming a country, so email them to confirm before you write. The SBA awards are for US citizens and nationals only.
How many should I apply for? Two or three where you clearly fit the criteria will usually beat ten rushed ones. If what you really want is structured help growing the business rather than recognition, an accelerator for women founders is the better use of the same hours.
Keeping track after this list goes stale
Deadlines on this page will pass, and next year's rounds will open with new dates. Athena Collective members have an Awards board in the member app's Opportunities tab: calls collected by our staff from each organizer's official page, re-read every week for changes, closing soonest first, with the organizer's rules listed as checks and the closing time shown in your time zone. Mark one as Applying and you get a plan with the checks, a writing step and reminders, with a send date two days before closing suggested. There's no application and no revenue minimum to join; see what membership includes. If you're still deciding where you want to belong, our guide to communities for female founders compares the options.
Pick one award above that closes after you've had a weekend to write, and open its form tonight so you know exactly what it asks.
